Thames View from the top
of St Pauls by Graeme Lothian.
Built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675 and finished 35
years later to replace the earlier one which was destroyed by fire in
1666. Its 365 foot high dome is only slightly smaller than St Peters in
Rome. Viewed from the top looking west one can see the bend in the River
Thames. Below is Blackfriars Bridge, opened by Queen Victoria in 1869. The
south bank view includes the Royal Festival Hall and Oxo Tower complexs.
In the distance Waterloo Bridge and Charing Cross railway station can be
viewed as can the London Eye and parts of the Houses of Parliament.

The Thames Looking Towards
St Pauls by Graeme Lothian.
Seen from the Royal Festival Hall the
Oxo Tower stands on the South Bank. On the north side can be seen St Pauls Cathedral, which was finished in 1710. Also Sion College and HMS
President. Pleasure craft and working boats continuously make their way up
and down the Thames which is tidal. In front of the Oxo Tower during the
summer weekends , when the tide is out, hundreds of people gather to
picnic or kick a ball around.

Tower Bridge and Tower of
London by Graeme Lothian.
Opened in 1894 and measuring 800 feet between the two
towers, which house the machinery for raising the bascules (each weighing
about 100 tons) in 90 seconds. The upper walkway is open to the public. To
the left is the Tower of London started by William the Conqueror in 1078.
It has been a fortress, royal residence, an arsenal and, more famously, a
prison.

The View East from London
Bridge by Graeme Lothian.
Pleasure boats heading up river to Westminster after
going out as far as Greenwich and the Thames flood barrier, a police
launch makes its way eastwards to Tower Bridge. This was built in 1894 to
allow ships further access up river. HMS Belfast is an 11,000
ton Navy cruiser which served throughout the Second World War and opened
as a museum in 1971. In the distance can be seen Canada Tower, part of the
Canary Wharf development. On the south bank, London Bridge City comprises
of the Hays Galleria complex, a 100 foot high glass roof covers the
former Hays Wharf where the great tea clippers once moored.
